Kodak T-Max 400 is a modern black-and-white film built on Kodak's flat T-grain technology, which gives it unusually fine grain and high sharpness for a 400-speed film. Next to Tri-X it looks cleaner and more neutral, with less of the classic grain texture — a good fit when you want speed without the grit, especially in 35mm.

It pushes well to 800 and 1600 and holds highlight detail nicely, but it is less tolerant of loose development than Tri-X: time and temperature matter more. It is also known for a magenta tint in the base that needs a thorough fix and wash to clear. Compare it with Kodak Tri-X 400 for the traditional look, or Kodak T-Max 100 for even finer grain.
